Online Dating Really Does Work

This past weekend I celebrated 7 years with my beautiful wife and wow has it been an amazing 7 years. For all of you who know me, you would have never thought I would have ever gotten married. Growing up, I was too busy watching ESPN, doing homework, and playing basketball. But I found THE ONE! When you know, you know, and I knew when I knew.

We met on a Christian online dating service, talked for about a year, were engaged for 6 months, and the rest is history. We have had an AMAZING 7 years filled with lots of fun and excitement.

-Have traveled to Iowa, Texas, North Carolina, California, Minnesota, and Cozumel for various vacations

-Have attended an NHL Game, a WNBA Game, and MLB playoff game (had to throw this in there haha)

-Did a full remodel of a bathroom where we had to turn water off for a couple months while my wife was pregnant with our first child (After we went through this, I realized we would never separate)

While these are some of the FUN stuff we have had so far, I am even more proud of some other things we have accomplished together.

-We are raising 2 beautiful children who are healthy. We are so happy they bring joy to many people’s lives. We are working hard every day to bring them up to know the Lord.

-We have recently become COMPLETELY debt free but our mortgage and plan to continue that way. Being debt free during this difficult time is an amazing feeling.

We have had to make some very difficult decisions, especially in the last couple of years, but I’m glad we have done that TOGETHER. We both understand that marriage is filled with peaks and valleys, much like life. But that tough decisions and struggles we may go through ultimately adds STRENGTH and ENDURANCE.

Even though we are still marriage “newbies”, I do have some advice I’d like to share.

-Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. This is a work in progress.

-Travel and have fun. We are planning many other vacations, including New York for our 10 year anniversary. It’s good to go places together and see new things. Our favorite vacation so far is Southern California. I could see myself living there!

-Don’t sweat the small stuff. In marriage, there is a lot of small stuff. In fact, in life, there’s a lot of small stuff we sweat that we don’t really need to. Ask yourself a lot, “Is this really that BIG of a deal?” If you are honest with yourself, it’s probably not.

I’m glad to be married to the woman I have chosen! Praise God for that. Til next time…
