The day my life almost ended on Bunker Hill.

A few weeks ago, I went to my doctor for my annual check-up. When I mean annual, I actually mean every 2-3 years it seems. At least that’s what it has felt like. In other words, I hadn’t been in a while, and I probably should have been going. Nonetheless, one of the things that came of that is that I need to lose some weight.

Currently, I weigh roughly 208 pounds, give or take. To be fully transparent, this is probably the heaviest I have ever been. I don’t shy away from that fact, but I also know it’s something I need to work on.

One of the reasons why is because I feel out of shape. I feel tired and I am not able to run and jump and all of that, like I used to. I used to be able to dunk a basketball and run the 40-yard-dash in under 4 seconds. Haha, that NEVER happened before but I considered myself somewhat athletic. I still am, but not like I used to.

For example, just last year, August 5th to be exact, I traveled with a great friend of mine to Boston. As part of our fast and furious and less-than-48-hour excursion, we walked to the famous Bunker Hill Monument. If you don’t know, that monument is incredibly skinny, and includes hundreds of stairs you can climb to get to the very top, just to look through this tiny little window. Granted it was hot and I tried, but it was an experience I will never forget. It placed a barometer on where I was physically, and I failed miserably. I climbed and climbed and climbed and almost didn’t make it. It was such a struggle traversing all of those steps. You had to be there to get the full experience, but it wasn’t pretty seeing me stop every 20-25 steps, sit down, take a breath, and keep going.

I joke now, but I almost died on Bunker Hill that day. At least that’s what I say humorously now. I seriously thought about making a T-Shirt that said that, as well.

Even with that happening close to a year ago, I still haven’t made many great strides to improve. I’ve talked about it and talked about it, but still nothing has happened.

Until today. I am putting this on my blog as a means for me to hold myself accountable, and log my journey back to somewhat of a physically fit human being. My goal is to be at 185 by the end of the year, and I know I can do that.

On this section of my blog, I will be posting periodic updates, things that are working and not working, while maybe sprinkling some humor along the way.

Please follow me on my journey back to 185 and perhaps, next time, Bunker Hill will not defeat me.
