I remember way back in elementary school, there was always a reading program going on where you were given prizes if you read a certain amount of books or your name was put in a drawing to win something great if you kept a habit of reading throughout the school year. However, as you transition into adulthood, those fun little reading programs go away and those valuable habits we learned slowly cease to exist. That’s unfortunate!
At the start of every year, I try to write down some goals that I look to accomplish by year-end. I typically try to set at least one goal around reading books. Last year, I set my goal to read 26 books, which was reading a book every 2 weeks. Needless to say, that was a goal that ended up being way too aggressive, especially with a 2 year old (now 3 year old) and another little blessing on the way. I was disappointed that I was only able to read 9 books last year, but still wanted to improve on that number this year.
That being said, for 2020, I have set my book goal to 13, and I am happy to announce I have just completed my 4th book of the year and started on my 5th. I am well on my way! One of my goals of this COVID-19 quarantine is to read a little more.
Reading is a habit of many successful people and many studies have shown that to be true.
So far, the books I have read are:
-The Coffee Bean by Jon Gordon
-Twitter Marketing in 2019 by Michael Clarke
-15 Secrets Successful People Know About Time Management by Kevin Kruse
-The Shark and the Goldfish by Jon Gordon
I have also set a goal this year to read through the entire Bible.
In the books category of my blog, I will be posting reviews of the books I read to not only keep me accountable but to share with you the nuggets I learn while I read. I tend to read self-improvement and personal improvement books as there is typically ALWAYS something you can take away from them.
What books have you read this year? Has reading always been a goal of yours? Have you lost your love of reading from when you were little?
This COVID-19 quarantine is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill, begin a new book, or anything else you’ve been putting off for a while.
Achieve your base whatever that may be.
I recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear. You might also want to go to the author’s website and sign up for this weekly newsletter.
Thank you Nancy! That one has been on my list for quite some time. Looking forward to finally get around to it!
