These simple yet powerful words will stick with me FOREVER. These came from my spitfire 3 year old daughter, and they are a strong reminder to us as parents. Sometimes as parents, we can beat ourselves up because we feel we are not doing as good of a job as we think we can. And then out of nowhere, our kids give us hope. My toddler daughter gave me some hope a couple weeks ago that we are doing just fine as her mommy and daddy.
To all you parents out there, you are doing some awesome things and you don’t even know it.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, I have been working very hard on creating some new and valuable habits. One of those habits has been to read one bible story out of my daughter’s little children’s bible and praying prior to eating supper around the table. We started this about a month ago, starting in Genesis with Creation and continuing until the end. We wanted to do this to begin laying the groundwork a little deeper with her about what is important in our lives and how important the bible is to her mom and dad.
Well, there was one night a couple weeks ago where things were CRAZY. We have a 5 month old son as well, and sometimes time gets away from us, and we forget to do things. We had dinner cooked, food was on the table, and we were ready to chow down. Mom and dad were hungry. It had been a long day and we just wanted to eat.
Out of nowhere, our little daughter, full of innocence and energy said, “We need to read our bible and we need to pray.” Wow! We had forgot, but she had remembered. Mind you, this is in the middle of this crazy pandemic, and her mom and dad were already worn down, thinking we are not doing well as parents anyway.
But this reminded me. In the midst of all this craziness, we are doing something right!
We have begun to create this simple habit in our daughter’s life to the point to where she actually reminded us of what we needed to do. I was so proud of her in that moment! She taught me a valuable lesson.
We are making an impact in our daughter’s life when we don’t even know it. You are making an impact in your child’s life and you don’t even know it sometimes.
So to all you parents out there who are worn down, tired, and feeling defeated right now, keep moving and keep being there for your children. Try new things and have fun, because your kids are watching. And trust me, YOU are making an impact.
