I am a plant that needs watered

This past weekend, we were working out a bit in the yard. On one side of our house we have one raspberry bush and two blueberry bushes. We also have a extremely heavy cast iron bathtub, that was in our house prior to our full bathroom remodel a couple years ago. It took 4 people to remove that thing!

Because the bathtub was still in good shape and extremely well built, we decided to keep it. We’ve always wanted to plant something in it, but then…well, life happens (mainly, 2 kids happened). Well, we FINALLY decided this weekend was the time, so we socially-distanced our way to Home Depot to pick up some strawberry plants. We bought 6 bags of soil and 2 plants, and added them to the bathtub.

It was a good experience because it was able to show our daughter the beauty of planting something and allowing her to see the amazing growth of the plant over time. We’ve been going out every day and checking to see if there are any new strawberries ready to pick, and to see the excitement from her is great.

Ever since last weekend, for some reason, I’ve had plants on my mind, mainly because I see a connection to the current situation we are in and my life.

I hope you see the connection also.

I am a plant. I am able to choose whether or not I want to feed myself with positive or negative things, especially with all the challenges we find ourselves in right now. The same with a plant, if you don’t do things to help cause growth, you won’t grow, and if you’re not growing, that’s not good. Plants need watered and taken care of in order to grow and flourish. In the same way, we must take care of our minds in our order to grow and flourish.

I can grow by learning a new skill. I won’t grow by sitting on the couch doing nothing.

I can grow by praying more. I won’t grow if I don’t pray.

I can grow by reading more. I don’t give myself a chance to grow if I don’t read.

There are MANY things I can do to grow. There are MANY things I can do to not grow.

But at the end of the day, I am a plant that needs watered.
