The Certainty of Storms

This past Saturday,  a storm rolled through that brought VERY high winds, rain, and a little bit of hail.  Trees were uprooted and patio equipment was launched like something out of a slingshot.  Power for many was lost for an extended period of time.

Luckily for Janel and I,  we just had lots of small sticks and twigs everywhere and power was only lost for a couple of hours.  Some were not so fortunate.

But not all storms have to be of the physical kind.  Many people refer to difficult times in their life as going through a “storm” and there are reasons for that.

There are many spiritual applications to “storms” in our life.  I think God probably intended for us to be able to draw many things out of seemingly simple things like that.

  • “Storms” in our life WILL happen.  No doubt about it.
    • Consider it all joy, my brethren, WHEN you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  (James 1:2-3)
  • “Storms” pass and are temporary.
    • And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (1 Peter 5:10)
  • “Storms” are calmed when we keep our eyes on and have faith in Jesus.
    • He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40)
    • Jesus was asking his disciples why they were so scared of the storm.  Did they really doubt Jesus couldn’t handle their fear and their worry?

We are the same way.  Sometimes we feel God can’t help us through our “storms” even though time and time again he has helped us.  Much like physical storms,  “storms” in our life can cause emotional damage, but it’s not the end of the world when it does.

We need to ALWAYS remember “storms” will happen, “storms” are temporary, but “storms” aren’t so bad when we keep our eyes on Jesus!

Journey on, brothers and sisters!
